About this provisional key

A provisional answer key is not a result, and it is not yet the final record of correct answers. It is published first so that candidates have a clear chance to check the board’s answers against the questions they attempted, spot any answer they believe is incorrect, and raise that point before the key is finalised. That early check matters because, once the final key is prepared, there is usually no further chance to challenge an answer. When an objection is received, it is not accepted simply because a candidate disagrees. The board places valid objections before a committee of subject experts, which reviews the question, the challenged answer and the supporting evidence, and then decides whether a correction is needed. This review protects both sides: it prevents a single claim from changing a key without scrutiny, while giving a well-supported claim a fair hearing. Candidates opening the PDF should therefore read it carefully rather than glancing at a few answers. They should confirm the subject and class, work through the questions in order, note any answer they wish to challenge with the reason and evidence ready, and keep the 25 October deadline in mind. A careful, evidence-based objection is far more useful than a hurried claim made after the window has closed.
